BMW and MINI CAS, FEM, and BDC Key Programming

bmw 3 lost all keys replacement

BMW and MINI utilize highly encrypted immobilizer systems integrated directly into the CAS (Car Access System), FEM (Front Electronic Module), or BDC (Body Domain Controller) modules. Programming a replacement or spare key requires extracting encrypted security data directly from these control units.

For earlier systems like CAS2 and CAS3, key programming is typically executed through the OBD-II diagnostic port. However, for modern CAS4, CAS4+, FEM, and BDC systems, OBD access is strictly locked by the factory. The module must be physically removed from the vehicle’s cabin for precise bench programming. We extract the unit, tap into the circuit board to read the internal EEPROM memory, and decode the module’s secret encryption key using advanced programmers like the Autel IM608S or Xhorse VVDI Key Tool Plus.

Once the data is decrypted, we generate a dealer-level transponder and write the new key profile into an empty memory slot within the module’s software. The module is then reassembled and reinstalled in the vehicle, resulting in immediate synchronization for remote locking, proximity keyless access, and push-to-start ignition.

Pricing depends on the specific service, year, model chassis, and whether it is a spare key duplicate or an All Keys Lost situation.

  • Key Programming: Duplicate keys start significantly lower than dealership rates.

We perform an All Keys Lost (AKL) recovery. This requires reading the engine computer (DME/DDE) to extract the Individual Serial Number (ISN). This ISN is injected into the immobilizer module to authorize a new key. Missing keys are permanently deleted.

No. We extract the necessary ISN and security data directly from your existing original modules. Dealerships require expensive module replacements for AKL situations; we do not.

We use Lishi decoding tools on the driver’s door lock cylinder to read the exact mechanical bitting. We then cut a new emergency metal blade on-site using an automated laser cutter.

Modern CAS4, FEM, and BDC systems block OBD-II key programming. We must physically remove the module from the vehicle to read the EEPROM memory and decrypt the security data directly on the bench.

Yes. We perform mobile key programming directly at your vehicle’s location. There is no need to tow the car to a dealership.

All Keys Lost Recovery and ISN Extraction

An All Keys Lost (AKL) situation on a BMW or MINI triggers a significantly more complex security protocol. Because there is no original working key to authenticate the immobilizer decryption, we must extract the vehicle’s absolute security code: the Individual Serial Number (ISN).

First, we perform mechanical lock decoding using specialized Lishi pick tools on the driver’s door cylinder. We read the exact wafer bitting depths and use an automated laser cutter to generate a new emergency metal blade on-site.

Next, we must communicate directly with the engine computerβ€”the DME (Digital Motor Electronics) for gas engines or DDE (Digital Diesel Electronics) for diesel. Using advanced bench tools, we read the engine computer to extract the 16-byte or 32-byte engine ISN. This code is strictly paired between the engine and the immobilizer module.

We then remove the CAS, FEM, or BDC module, read its EEPROM on the bench, and inject the extracted engine ISN to force the authorization of a brand-new smart key. Simultaneously, we permanently erase all missing or stolen keys from the memory block to guarantee total vehicle security.

This complete mobile key recovery procedure is performed for all natively popular platforms, including the BMW 3 Series (E90, F30, G20), 5 Series (F10, G30), X3, X5, and the MINI Cooper (R56, F56). We dispatch directly to vehicles stranded across Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and Guelph.
